DEVOTIONAL: ‘Not drunk, swerving for potholes’
What may start as something we think small and insignificant, is actually the start of something that may lead to complete ruin.

I RECENTLY saw this bumper sticker: “No, I’m not drunk. I’m swerving for potholes.”
Put two South African road users in the same place at the same time, and it won’t be long before the conversation steers towards the potholes we need to daily navigate.

The reality of those potholes, some large enough to swallow an entire car, is that they didn’t start out that size.
Rather, each one began as a small unobservable hole, which gradually with more water corrosion and wear and tear became the dangerous holes that we see today.
It’s not so different with the corrosive nature of sin.
What may start as something we think small and insignificant, is actually the start of something that may lead to complete ruin.
Whenever the sad news arrives of a well-known Christian failing to some sin, the fall most times didn’t start with that one sin, but with something that was thought to be small and manageable. Sin is never manageable.
We need to continually pray to stand firm against the temptation to sin.
And if we have sinned, we need to remember that there is isn’t any sin greater than God’s desire to forgive and restore.
Confess your sin and be assured of God’s love and forgiveness. 1 John 1:9, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
Be blessed to be God’s blessing.
