Winter Holiday Guide: Blooming lovely

The South Coast is home to subtropical forests, lagoons, golden beaches and rolling hills.

It’s not only the Indian Ocean that draws visitors to our part of the world but the spectacular scenery and natural settings with a wealth of wildlife, birdlife and fauna.

Lace up those hiking boots and take in one of the many nature reserves that dot not only the coastal belt but the hinterland areas too.

There are many delightful walks and self-guided trails to scenic spots within the reserves and it is not uncommon to come across bushbuck, reedbuck, blue and grey duiker and of course the vervet monkey.

 

Smaller mammals such as porcupine, water mongoose as well as the cape clawless otter can be seen too. A wealth of colourful birdlife awaits prospective birders with the area boasting some of the best birdwatching spots in Southern Africa. It’s all here on the KwaZulu-Natal South Coast.
