A senior staff member at Ray Nkonyeni Municipality has appeared in court on charges of conspiracy to commit murder.
Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge confirmed that the man had appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court last Friday, and had been released on R3 000 bail.

The man, who is currently on suspension, is accused of hiring a hit man to kill a manager who is also on suspension.
Both are employed in the cleansing and waste management section and were placed on precautionary suspension in June.
It is believed the plan was exposed when the hired gun confessed to his alleged target and this was reported to police.
Problems in the department are well documented.
In June this year, cleansing and maintenance superintendent Winile Nikwe (45) was shot dead in an ambush at her Nyandezulu home .
Ongoing squabbles at the unit had recently led to workers downing tools and service delivery being hindered.
Municipal manager Max Mbili confirmed the news, saying the municipality would allow the law to take its course.
The case was postponed to August 20 for further investigation.
