UPDATE: Hibberdene armed robbery suspects arrested near Southport
A multidisciplinary team including the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, Tactical Response Team and K9 units combined in a joint operation, which resulted in the arrest of the suspects hours later.
Police acted swiftly in the wake of the attempted cash-in-transit heist at a pension pay point in Hibberdene yesterday (Thursday), arresting four suspects at Kwamadlala location near Southport within hours of the foiled robbery.

According to a statement released by The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation yesterday, a group of armed suspects fired several shots, killing one security guard and wounding two others.
The driver of the armoured vehicle managed to speed off and the suspects fled the scene empty handed.
A multidisciplinary team including the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation unit, Tactical Response Team (TRT) and K9 units combined in a joint operation, which resulted in the arrest of the suspects hours later.
An AK 47, R4 rifles a handgun were recovered. These will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if they had been used in the commission of other possible crimes.
The Hawks’ investigation into this case is continuing, and the suspects are expected to appear in the Hibberdene Magistrate’s Court soon.
