Hibberdene Happenings: The public lends a helping hand
Thoughts are with those who were in any way traumatised during this frightening experience.
SEVERAL gun shots rang out from the direction of the central business district at about 5.45am, shattering the early morning calm last Thursday.
A botched cash in transit heist outside a financial service provider’s premises in town saw one security guard killed and another two people injured, causing fear and consternation amongst the many who arrived in town early to get pension money.

Many conflicting reports abound, but the investigation is safely in the hands of the police who have arrested several people in connection with the incident. They express sincere thanks to the public for their help with apprehending suspects.
Let us not become complacent, but remain alert at all times. Thoughts are with those who were in any way traumatised during this frightening experience. Sympathy is extended to the family of the slain guard.
Annual fair
Hibberdene’s annual Spring Fair is scheduled to take place on Friday and Saturday, September 27 and 28. The venue will be at the town hall, which has ample parking.
Hiring a table for the two days will cost R60 and bookings can be made through Marie at 082 2935757.
The many stalls will offer bargains of pre-loved clothes, household goods, garden equipment, books, jams and preserves, toys and a wide, appetising array of food.
There will be games and prizes and ‘DJ Funky’ will provide his irresistible brand of music.
Although not a local event, the community of Clansthal work hard to ensure their conservancy is pristine – so that visitors can enjoy the beautiful facilities.
To raise funds for essential costs, Keith and Liz Cunningham open their home at 111 Pig and Whistle Drive to host an enjoyable Sunday, so contact them if you are a crafter and would like to take part.
The next market is scheduled for Sunday, September 1, from 9am to 2pm. For more information, contact Liz at 083 556 8108 or lizc@scottburgh.co.za.
New and improved
Dr Kogie Govender has moved from her premises in town and is now operating from the Care Centre and her new consulting and waiting rooms are well signposted and easy to find.
She is wished every success in her new premises.
And Hibberdene Pharmacy has been undergoing a total revamp and will look absolutely lovely when completed. It will indeed be a pleasant experience to visit the new store.
Faith and fellowship
Last Saturday’s Methodist men’s breakfast guest speaker Erick Mack unfortunately could not make it and local farmer Richard Cole stepped in.
And, as boring as it may sound, Richard gave a most interesting talk on reclaiming desert-like farmland and making it arable once again.
As usual, a delicious meal was served and fellowship and faith prevailed. The next breakfast will be held on Saturday, September 7.
