Margate Moves: Wouldn’t it be loverly to have a full house?
The film 'My Fair Lady' is an adaptation of the play `Pygmalion' written by George Bernard Shaw.
MANY people claim that `My Fair Lady’ is their favourite movie of all time. And the good news is that it will be screened at the next DVD Classic Movie afternoon at the Margate Retirement Village.
The film, starring Rex Harrison (Professor Henry Higgins) and Audrey Hepburn (Eliza Doolittle), which won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1964, is an adaptation of the play `Pygmalion’ written by George Bernard Shaw.

Its wonderful songbook by Lerner and Loewe provided much-loved tunes such as `Why Can’t The English?’ and `I Could Have Danced All Night’.
`My Fair Lady’ will be shown at the Ronnie Baker Hall next Sunday (18th) at 2.30pm. Cost is R5 which includes tea/coffee and biscuits during intermission.

Save the date
`A Night Of Swing’ featuring the dynamic Tonya Koenderman, is the next supper theatre offering at the Azalea Hall (Margate Retirement Village). The date to diarise is Saturday, August 31. Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm.

Be a litter buster
Following the successful north beach clean-up, the Ramsgate Lions Club will tackle the main beach at Ramsgate this weekend.
The community are encouraged to join the pride in clearing and cleaning the area.
Volunteers are asked to wear gloves and meet in the car park at Blue Lagoon this Saturday, August 10 at 8am. The clean-up will be followed by a bring and braai – take along some meat and liquid refreshments. If you would like to know more about the clean-up phone Lion Charmaine at 076 5231922.
Welcome addition
There’s a new addition to the South Coast’s growing coffee culture. `Es Su Casa’ cafe located in the grounds of Sebenza Garden Centre (near Margate Country Club) opened last Saturday.

It is a delightful spot, nestled in between the plants and flowers, to sip a cappuccino and enjoy the yummy light meals or tasty treats on offer.
Anniversary celebrations
Swing into spring with the `Legends’ at Southbroom Golf Club on August 31. The club is celebrating its 80th anniversary with an evening of good food and great music.

To market, to market
There will be a community market in Trafalgar this weekend.
The market, hosted by the Mpenjati Conservancy, takes place at Mountbatten Square this Saturday (10th) from 10am to 3pm.
Lots of tasty, homemade and baked food will be on sale as well as arts and crafts.
Fun fund-raisers
Two super events are coming to town shortly.
First up is `Pretville’ which offers a good old-fashioned `opskop’ – live music and dancing at Van’s Roadhouse in Margate. The date to diarise is August 31st. Tickets are on sale at Suid-Natal Primary.

You can bet on having a brilliant time at the annual `Donkey Derby’ at Margate Bowling Club on September 21. If you fancy yourself as being a `racehorse’ owner this is your opportunity as the nags will be auctioned before each race. And punters can have a little flutter or three. Tickets at R100 per person are now on sale.
Proceeds go to the South Coast Hospice.
