Just In: Woman drowns at Margate beach

The half naked woman jumped off the rocks.

A woman believed to be in her 20s drowned at Margate main beach earlier this morning (Thursday).

According to Craig Botha, spokesman for Kwazulu Private Ambulance, the woman jumped off the rocks near Margate main beach at about 7.20am.
“Margate lifesavers recovered her body shortly thereafter. Resuscitation was attempted but unfortunately she was declared dead at the scene,” said Mr Botha.
Eyewitness, Marius Klopper from Uvongo who was driving past  in Finnis Road, said he saw the half-naked woman run across the road, down to the rocks and jump. “It happened so fast. I managed to stop a traffic official and alerted the lifeguards,” he said.
An official statement is awaited from Margate police.
