Sheppie Snippets: School plans family fun day

The event is being held to promote drug awareness in schools and the community.

PORT Shepstone Secondary and Euphoria are proud to present their family fun day at the school on Saturday, August 24 from 8am. The event is being held to promote drug awareness in schools and the community. There will be a social volleyball tournament at R150 per team. The fun run starts at 10am with registration at 8am.

The cost to take part is R20 for adults and R10 for scholars (under 18). There will be food stalls, health and wellness, live entertainment, arts and crafts and so much more. For further information call 039 6820819.

Sri Krishna Janmashtami

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness, Port Shepstone Namahatta invites all to join in celebrating Sri Krishna Janmashtami. The event will be held at the Andhra Sabha Hall this Saturday, August 17 from 3.30pm. For further information call Rajen at 082 8362758.

Comedy show

Hibiscus Coast Darts Association (Port Shepstone) is hosting the Dingalings. This is a fund-raising event for the association. The show titled ‘The best of Koobie and Henry’ will be staged at the Port Shepstone Civic Centre on Saturday, August 24 at 6.30pm. Tickets cost R100 per person. Prayer

The Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir will observe Gita week from August 16. Discourses recitals and bhajans will be held throughout Gita Week. Prayers on weekdays start at 6pm and on weekends at 7.30am. Krishna Janmashtami will be observed on August 23 at 6pm. All are welcome and supper will be served. The Shree Raam Narayan Mandir in Marburg will observe Gita Week from August 16 at 6.30pm and Sri Krishna Janmashtami on August 23 from 6.30pm until midnight. Bhanjans will be held daily up to August 23. All are welcome. Officiating priest will be Pundit Misra. The mandir will also observe Sri Krishna Chaturthi. Pap smear

For August (in honour of Women’s Month) the South Coast Hospice cancer screening clinic is offering Pap Smear tests at R60. Tests will be done on Wednesdays at South Coast Hospice 29 Connor Street Port Shepstone. Booking is essential. Contact Sam 039 6823031.

CPF meeting

Albersville Community Policing Forum (CPF) will hold a meeting at Port Shepstone Secondary on Monday, August 26 at 6pm. The purpose of the meeting is to enhance community-police partnerships in the fight against crime through active communication and co-operation in police initiatives.

Soccer tournament

The 2019 Strini Moodley Junior Soccer Tournament takes place at Port Shepstone Senior Primary grounds on Saturday, August 26 from 8am.

This is the tenth tournament and 10 schools are set to compete.

School fund-raising

Suid-Natal Primary is hosting a dinner and dance at Van’s Roadhouse in Margate on Saturday, August 31. This is a fund-raising event for the school.

Tickets cost R200 per person and can be purchased at the school reception. Entertainment includes live music, an auction and many prizes. For further information contact Gerda at 071 6727385.

Golf day

Port Shepstone Tamil Association will host its annual golf day at the Port Shepstone Country Club on September 1. The event starts at 9am and the fee is R280 per person which includes lunch. For bookings contact 039 6950140 or Bobby Naidoo at 081 8915136.
