Hibberdene Happenings: Warmer weather heralds more outdoor events

With spring fast approaching, there are many outdoor activities being planned in the area.

HIBBERDENE community breathed a collective sigh of relief last week upon learning that Hennie van der Merwe of Sunwich Port has been found alive and well at a shelter near Bethlehem in the Free State.

Hennie had been missing since failing to return home on July 1 and his fiancee and family were frantic with worry at his disappearance. They were relieved beyond belief at hearing the good news.

Sad news this week is that Hettie Els of Leisuredene Village died recently and sympathy is extended to her family and friends.

Diary items

First social event for the calendar is this week’s Mizpah Church’s men’s breakfast to be held at the church this coming Saturday, August 17, at 7am, at a cost of R20 per person.

The breakfast is open to all denominations and all men are most welcome to attend. Contact Edgar Lilje at 084 5820772 for more information.

Crafters, why not head north of Hibberdene on Sunday, September 1, and visit the Clansthal Craft Market for a change? It will be held at the lovely home of Liz and Keith Cunningham at 111 Pig and Whistle Drive, Clansthal, just north of Scottburgh and will run from 9am to 2pm.

Contact Liz at 083 5568108 or lizc@scottburgh.co.za for more information. All funds raised go towards the conservancy – a worthy cause.

Flyers will be distributed shortly advertising the Hibberdene Spring Fair, scheduled to take place at the town hall on Friday and Saturday, September 27 and 28. Hire a table at R60 for the two days by contacting Marie at 082 2935757.

All the usual fair foods will be available and the kitchen will be in operation, serving tea, cake, pudding and so on. Please support this effort, as all money raised by organisers goes to local charities.

There will be ample parking available and Pieter Laubscher (aka ‘DJ Funky’) will provide his special brand of foot-tapping music.
