Tyrese is Empress South Africa semi-finalist

This year's pageant has received a record amount of entries from various provinces across the country

Putting the South Coast on the map is 20-year-old beauty Tyrese Manisunker of Olso Beach.

She has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Empress South Africa 2019 contest which takes place at the Suncoast Casino on December 16 this year. Tyrese is both honoured and proud to have been selected, as this year’s pageant has received a record number of entries from various provinces across the country.

She told the Herald that being selected as a semi-finalist feels like an achievement in itself.

“Empress South Africa is the coveted title of the world’s first large scale online beauty contest. The pageant is the first of its kind and focuses on providing a platform to promote women empowerment, and allows them to be ambassadors for community causes and recognized for their worth,” she explained.

Contestants are given various tasks and challenges, throughout the year, designed to empower them. They build their personal brands and make a difference in their communities, such as blanket drives, motivational talks at public gatherings and schools, various charity initiatives and media engagements.

“I’ve done and still do a lot of charity work and am in full support of women empowerment so this pageant enables me to grow on these concepts,” she said.

Tyrese notes that this contest has so far been an amazing opportunity for her to build on her confidence and public speaking skills, learn about the industry, make plenty of contacts and partake in exciting new experiences.

“Beauty pageants have changed a lot in recent years, but are still a great way to give women a public platform to air their views and support the causes they care about.

“I am aiming to do more and this will only be possible when I advance to the next level of the contest. To advance I need the support of the community. I need them to vote by SMSing Tyrese to 35334. Every SMS costs R3. There is no limit to how many times you can vote,” she noted.

Tyrese says she believes in herself and taking part in this major pageant is a small step in the right direction. “My family are my number one supporters. They see potential in me and are backing me all the way,” she added.

When asked what she would do if she wins the contest she responded by saying, “I would like to showcase to the world what South Africa is made of. On the local front, I aim to make a difference in society through various humanitarian work and projects.”
