Tweni Talk: Women enjoy some special treats

Thank you to Jenny Ravenscroft for the great reflexology treatment and pamper session.

WOMEN’S Day came and went and the local Caltex Garage in Tweni made all local women feel special. There were manicures on offer and free coffee and muffins served with friendly smiles and happy wishes.

Energetic women like Inika Curnow, Moira King, Jackie Koekemoer and Heidi van Aswegen took part in the Total Sports 10km race held in Durban. Moira says it was a fantastic, well-organised event with an awesome vibe.

Others, like your scribe, had some well-deserved quality time – a huge thank you to Jenny Ravenscroft for the great reflexology treatment and pamper session.

Bouquets to Builders Express at Southcoast Mall for inviting gardening guru Tanya Visser as guest speaker for last Saturday’s promotional event. She is like a breath of fresh air and gave lots of hints and tips for a better water-wise garden.

Tanya acknowledged local guru Alex Skene, chairman of Umtentweni Conservancy, who knows almost everything there is to know about indigenous plants. So, if anyone has questions, please contact Alex at 078 5087290.

Family matters

Emile and Sarah Schutgens left on Monday this week, but promised to return in November. It could be called a working holiday because Emile got stuck into pruning and tidying up the garden while staying with parents Marcel and Glenda Schutgens.

Ria Smith is bursting with pride. Her son Christopher’s book entitled ‘Blood on the Range’ has been published. Congratulations. It received a five-star review and your scribe will be off to buy a copy as soon as possible.

Thoughts and prayers

Dr Cilel Smith was admitted to hospital after developing lung complications last Monday (5th), but happily she is well on the way to recovery after being moved from ICU to a general ward.

Her daughter Lea Snoek flew out from the Netherlands.

And Nobby Clarke, one of people dedicated to monitoring Tweni Crime Watch cameras, is currently in ICU. Everyone is thinking of Nobby and hopes he gets better as soon as possible.

Interesting talk

Friends of the Southport Library invite everyone to a talk ‘Shipwrecks and the silk trade’ by Phillipa Makepeace in the library hall at 10 for 10.30am on Friday, August 22. Tea and snacks will be served afterwards.

Happy birthday to Sybil Seaton (14th), Stella Donald and Pauline McGovern (15th), Melodie Stoltz (17th), Candice van Rooyen and Lynn Mc Kinley (18th) and Francis Hannaway and Hilda Thomas on August 20th.

All news to Leila.
