Ramsgate Lion Charmaine Smit said the purpose of this gathering was simple. “To remove coastal litter from our beaches. Beach clean-ups can reduce litter, protect our ocean and raise awareness about litter and plastic pollution,” she explained.

Ms Smit said the enthusiasm shown by volunteers was clear throughout the day. “The Ramsgate Lions Club is incredibly grateful for the support received from the community that volunteered of their time for this important cause.”

The clean-up was followed by a bring and braai at the Ramsgate Lions Club.
