Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said the Saps K9 Units provide specialised support to police stations in the prevention, investigation and combating of crime. Police dogs have been categorised into 11 disciplines according to their acute sense of smell, for example, patrol, tracker, narcotic, explosive, search and rescue and currency detection.
“Dog handlers work very closely with their canine partners and the unit is extremely appreciative of the donation to their four-footed members,” he said.
