Don’t let thieves target your entrance

You may think the entrance gate to your home is secure, but never underestimate the dexterity of burglars.

Time to secure your motor

Do not assume that your entrance gate is the most secure barrier to the outside world. This is a serious underestimation.

“The weak point in perimeter security has always been at one’s entrance gate. Criminals can very quickly lift a gate off its tracks and enter the premises. Gate motors are also often stolen as they have resale value,” says ET Nice sales person Marco Retief.

How then do you protect this weak point?

“The easiest way is to install an anti-theft/lift bracket which comes standard with certain motors,” said Matthew Cohen of SECURITY SUPERSTORE.

He suggests the following:

1. Fit a branded anti-tamper bracket over your gate motor made by the motor company themselves which helps gives you peace of mind that your motor is safe.
2. Ensure you have a good tamper bracket over your gate motor, you can further set up an alarm function on the Drive 500 motor.

Drive 500 gate motor with security brackets.

It will alert you when the gate is open for too long and you can operate it through the GSM unit which you can access from your cell phone.
3. Anti-lift bracket, when the gate is in the closed position, this is the best way of stopping them from derailing your gate.
4. The anti-lift bracket combined with the front pin on the gate (where it slides in) will mean that the motor will be going nowhere.

Attempted theft will trigger alarm

Jeron Naidoo of LUTRON recommends the ET Motor.

1. It has additional features such as the built-in “gate forced open”, which can be activated by adding the ET Nice micro transmitter to the alarm output and programming this transmitter into the alarm panel receiver.
2. The gate motor alarm feature provides 24/7 monitoring of the gate’s position and, should an intruder force the gate open, the end user’s home alarm will be automatically triggered. Similarly, should attempts be made to steal the gate motor, the alarm will be activated.

3. The same applies to safety beams – if the safety beams are obstructed for more than 20 seconds when the gate is in the closed position, the alarm can be instantly triggered. This may be of huge benefit for residential complexes where it may be customary for individuals to jam the gates in the open position. The estate manager can provide a predefined acceptable gate-open period and the installer programs this into the system.
