The August eye clinic takes place this afternoon (21st) from 12 noon onwards and hopefully all appointments will be honoured. The next clinic is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18, also from 12pm. Bookings can be made by contacting your scribe at the supplied number or at 073 1653961.

Less than two weeks to go to the Clansthal Craft Market (Sunday, September 1) at 111 Pig and Whistle Drive – the lovely home of Liz and Keith Cunninham. Arts, crafts, jewellery and much more will be on sale and the market runs from 9am to 2pm. Just remember that there are dogs on the property and visitors are requested not to bring their own dogs.

Have you booked a table for the Spring Fair yet? R60 gets you a table for both September 27 and 28. Call Marie at 082 2935757 to book. ‘DJ Funky’ will put in an appearance and the usual flea market fare will be available. Do support this worthy cause – all funds raised go to various charities.

Thoughts and prayers

Sadly Reg James died recently and was laid to rest at a service held at Mizpah Church last Saturday. Sympathy is extended to his wife Jessie and family members.

As a result of Reg’s service, the men’s breakfast was cancelled. September’s breakfast will also not take place due to Edgar Lilje being away on holiday, so make a special note of the next one planned for October 19 at 7am.

Debbie Fletcher has been discharged from hospital in the UK and rumour has it that she is on her way to visit her son Warren van Zyl in Kuwait. It is hoped that she enjoys the rest of her vacation. Petro Wiid has been hospitalised locally and is in need of thoughts and prayers, as are all others suffering from the dreaded flu and other ailments.

Happy celebrations

Birthday wishes for the week go to Barnie Viviers (23rd), Tallie Taljaard (24th), Virginia Posthumus (25th), and Pat Muuren (27th), while Isabel and Malcolm McManus celebrate their anniversary today, August 21.

It was delightful to see that the access road to Leisuredene Village has been repaired to a degree and is now completely passable. This is indeed good news as one was beginning to think that nothing would ever be done about it. Thanks are extended to those responsible – hopefully the finishing touches are undertaken as soon as possible.

Don’t forget to keep Lizzie busy with Hibberdene news and snippets.
