Margate Moves: Swing along with a pocket-sized diva
Two super events are coming to town shortly.
THERE’s an exciting show lined up for this month’s supper theatre offering at the Azalea Hall. Catch pint-sized dynamo Tonya Koenderman in `A Night Of Swing’ at Margate Retirement Village next Saturday, August 31. Doors open at 6pm and the show starts at 7pm.

Although small in stature, Tonya has a big voice which she uses superbly to salute the music of Liza Minnelli as well as Shirley Bassey, Barbra Streisand, Tina Turner, Nina Simone, Edith Piaf and others.
She is best known for her tribute to the great Liza Minnelli, in her long-running show titled `Liza with a T’, which she has performed all over the world.
Pack a picnic supper and your drinks and enjoy a fabulous evening of great entertainment. Tickets, at R75 per person, are on sale from either the RAC or admin offices at the village.

More entertainment
Ramsgate’s iconic music venue, Rocky Ridge in Fascadale Road, will host a Brian Adams tribute show this Friday (23rd).
The show has received rave reviews and played to packed houses in Durban.
Entry is R100 per person on Quicket or R120 at the gate. Venue opens at 6pm and the band is on stage from 8pm.
`Sound Dogs’ is the headline act for Sunday Blues (25th).
Entry is free (hat will be passed). Gates open at 12pm and the band is in stage from 2pm.
Party time
Swing into spring with the legendary `Legends’ at Southbroom Golf Club next Saturday (31st).
The club is celebrating its 80th anniversary with an evening of good food and great music.
There will be a full buffet at R180 per person – take note booking is essential. Phone 039 3166026 for details and to book.
Fun fund-raisers
First up is `Pretville’ which offers a good old-fashioned `opskop’ – live music and dancing at Van’s Roadhouse in Margate. The date to diarise is next Saturday (31st). Tickets are on sale at Suid-Natal Primary.

The smart money for having a fun evening is on the annual `Donkey Derby’. It takes place at Margate Bowling Club on September 21. If you fancy yourself as being a `racehorse’ owner this is your opportunity as the nags will be auctioned before each race. And punters can have a little flutter or three. Tickets at R100 per person are now on sale.
Proceeds go to South Coast Hospice.

Speedy recovery
Many get well soon wishes go to Denise Millar of Margate who is ill in hospital.
And to Roelof Bos from Ramsgate who had fallen and broke his leg. He is also in hospital.
Safe travels
Wendy and Roy Nolan have enjoyed their two-month sojourn at their Ramsgate holiday home. They are wished safe travels as they return to Johannesburg this week.
Deepest sympathy
Condolences go to the family and friends of Terry Bevan formerly from Ramsgate who sadly lost his brave fight on August 12. Many will remember Terry from the days when he ran the Dumela Resort at Margate north beach.
Well-known court prosecutor Lena Lourens died last week and deepest sympathy is extended to her husband Arie, family and friends.
