Sting operation results in arrests

Two firearms and ammunition were seized during the raid.

A successful sting operation carried out by police unearthed a stash of firearms and drugs in Margate and Masenenge on Tuesday this week.

Members from the Provincial Drug and Firearm Task Team conducted the intelligence-driven operation, which resulted in a 30-year old man being arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Police spokesman, Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane said a rifle with 91 rounds of ammunition was seized.

The suspect appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Wednesday) and the case was postponed for further investigation.

In Masenenge informal settlement, police seized drugs, firearms and ammunition. A suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and nine rounds of ammunition.

A second suspect was arrested for being in possession of mandrax, rock cocaine and heroin. Both appeared in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court yesterday (Wednesday).

The case has been postponed pending further investigation.
