Umdoni walkers ‘in the pink’

A group of musically-talented residents encouraged them on their way.

THE rain held off long enough for the residents of Umdoni Retirement Village to enjoy a Spring Walk last Wednesday, September 4.

With the aid of golf carts, mobility scooters and walkers, the sprightly seniors donned their brightest outfits, most in keeping with the ‘pink’ theme, and took to the streets of the village.

A group of musically-talented residents encouraged the walkers on their way.

First up was the Duck Pond, where Judy Kilian, with Betty Gordon on guitar, Peter Ashworth and Elise Abrams entertained.

The last stop before walkers reached the hall was the Fairy Garden, where the exquisite strains of the mandolin and guitar, compliments of new residents, Marie and Johan Laubser, proved a delight.

Prizes were presented to Dot and Murray Linaker (best decked out golf cart), Joy Hansson (best mobility scooter) and Hugh Lindsay (best hat).

A superb tea, provided by generous sponsors, J Leslie Smith and Partners, Mosaic and OK rounded off proceedings.

They also provided pot plants for the tables, which were given away by means of a lucky draw.

Carole Barber is thanked for organising the event.
