Death may be an unpleasant thing to think about, however, questions such as who will inherit your assets when you die are worth considering. National Wills Week, runs from September 16 to 20, is an initiative by the Legal Practice Council (LPC) and is an annual event that encourages members of the public to draw up their wills for free.

“By making a will, you ensure that your assets are disposed of in accordance to your wishes after your death,” said Bongani Mahlangu, Legal Aid SA’s KZN spokesperson.
Why are wills important?
“All people should have a will in place to ensure that the distribution of their assets at death is done according to their desires. This legal document expands on the wishes put forward by the testator (the person who has drawn up a will) by meeting the guidelines and directions outlined, which has also been signed by witnesses.”
Why should an attorney draft your will?
Attorneys are professionals qualified in law, who can advise you on a problem which may arise concerning your will. They have the necessary knowledge and expertise to ensure that your will is valid.
“We encourage members of the community to visit our Port Shepstone Local Office at 49 Aiken Street or call us at (039) 688 9600 for assistance with the drafting of their wills,” concluded Mr Mahlangu
