Margate Moves: Band bangs on for animals

Doors and the establishment's kitchen open at 6pm and band will be on stage from 8pm.

THE South Coast’s best-known heavy metal band, `Hate Speech’ comprising Russell Stroud (vocals), Brady Jordan (guitar), Graeme Messina (bass), Rudi van Wyk (drums) and new recruit Morne Linell (guitar) invite everyone to `Rock Against Cruelty’ which takes place at Ramsgate’s iconic music venue Rocky Ridge this Saturday (21st).

The rights and treatment of animals is an issue close to the hearts of the band members who are embarking on this fund-raising drive for the Lower South Coast branch of the SPCA which is in dire need of assistance.

Inspirational

Established in 1971, the Durban Men’s Choir, has been performing all over the province and the country for the past 48 years.

Thanks to the Residents’ Activities’ Committee at Margate Retirement Village, the acclaimed choir is making a welcome return to the South Coast. The choral concert will be staged at the Azalea Hall, next Sunday (29th) at 2pm for 2.30pm.

Art, wine and music

`The Games We Play’ is the quirky name of the art exhibition which opens at Riverbend Art and Wine Gallery this Thursday (19th). It features bronze sculptures by Marke Meyer and Michael Canadas and nature inspired paintings by Sarah Kelly. Some of the works on display are brand new pieces straight from the foundry.

The exhibition is part of the annual South Coast Spring Wine Festival which runs from September 19 to 22.

Other highlights include wine tasting and music by The Gentry (21st) from 6.30pm and be stirred by the unusual sounds of Spanish guitar and piano at an afternoon concert this Sunday (22nd).

The concert, features pianist Christopher Duigan and classical guitarist James Grace.

Tickets for these events are on sale at the Crocodile Farm’s reception.

Exotic blooms

There’s no better way to catch `spring fever’ than by viewing an array of exquisite blooms, such as exotic orchids. The Alfred County Orchid Society will hold its `Spring Fair’ at the Margate Methodist Church next Friday (27th). For details contact Monica Marr at 079 1070463.
