Umzumbe Municipality spokesman Sabelo Ncwane confirmed that Council accepted the resignation. “After having served the municipality for almost two decades, Cllr Ngcobo has tendered his resignation as mayor effective from September 26.”

Mr Ngcobo said that his resignation followed the ANC’s decision to politically deploy him elsewhere. “I served all these years on the deployment by the ANC. If I am sent somewhere, as a disciplined cadre of the movement I am bound by that ANC decision” he said. He thanked everyone in Umzumbe for supporting him during his years as a councillor, the Speaker and recently as mayor.
Representatives of all political parties at the municipality described Mr Ngcobo as a leader who was selfless and accommodating of all political parties equally. They wished him well with his new responsibility.
ANC provincial spokesman Ricardo Mthembu confirmed the news.
