UPDATE: Yes – Uvongo, St Mike’s and Margate beaches are open

The Sharks Board has given the green light for bathing.

Good news is that all South Coast beaches are open for swimming.

The green light was given earlier today by Greg Thompson, operations manager from the KwaZulu-Natal Sharks Board.

Uvongo, St Mike’s and Margate beaches were closed over the weekend after a whale carcass at Shelly Beach broke up and washed south, attracting shark activity.

Last Friday, most of the carcass was disposed of by a team from Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.
