One killed in Bhobhoyi crash

At the time of going to print, police could not confirm if there had been a second death.

A driver died and three people were seriously injured when two bakkies collided on the N2 at Bhobhoyi on Monday afternoon.

According to paramedic Glen Preston from Med-Evac Ambulance Services, a cyclist was also seriously injured. “The crash occurred at around 4.50pm. The 48-year-old driver of the smaller bakkie died and the injured were taken to hospital.”

Police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge said the accident occurred near the Ngwabe Bus stop. “A culpable homicide case is being investigated by Port Shepstone Detective Service.”

In another accident, KwaZulu-Private Ambulance attended to an accident in Bomela where a pedestrian was knocked down by a taxi last Sunday at about 10.30am. According to spokesman Craig Botha, the pedestrian was the only person injured. The patient was treated at the scene and taken to hospital.

The same day paramedics responded to an accident on the R61 between Uvongo and Ramsgate, where a car struck a pedestrian at about 3.40pm.

“The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and the driver suffered minor injuries. Both patients were transported to hospital,” said Mr Botha.
