Getting stuck in

International Coastal Clean-up Day, led by Beekman Group in conjunction with NRSI, took place at Umtentweni beach last weekend.

About 50 people arrived and while the shoreline was reasonably clean – due to the fact that most people who walk along the beach these days pick up litter instead of shells, the Admiralty Reserve was a different kettle of fish.

This area is used by vagrants, the homeless and law-breakers, to hide away from authorities. It is polluted with discarded rubbish and in a perfect world of course, authorities would keep this area clean and safe.

At Sunwich Port beach, Umtentweni Conservancy, Bryan Schwegman and others got stuck in on International Coastal Clean-up Day.

Tweni couple Gail and Cole Fletcher are armed with garbage bags for collecting litter at last Saturday’s International Coastal Clean-up Day, organised by the Beekman Group and the NSRI.

It was a huge success and thanks go to everyone who came out to help. Sincere thanks also to Clive Berry from Kudos Mini Skip Hire for donating the skip and removing the many bags of collected litter.
