Sheppie Snippets: Call to support golf day
The tournament is being held to raise funds for two creches.
THE South Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry is holding an 18-hole golf tournament at Port Shepstone Country Club on Friday, October 25. The format is a four-ball, better ball, Stableford.
Tee-off is at 10am, and the fee is R280 per person. The tournament is being held in support of the Snemfundo Creche in Mkolombe and the Cathulisanani Creche in Bhomela.

Church event
Turning Point Ministries on Victory Road, Marburg will hold a reunion service in celebration of the late Reverend Sam Owdbehari’s life next Wednesday, October 9. The church will host various seminars, a youth service and worship services from October 10 to 13.

Andhra Sabha
The Port Shepstone and District Andhra Sabha will be the holding its popular ‘2019 Raam Bhajan prayer’ this Saturday, October 5 at the Andhra Hall with the main event starting at 6.30pm.
The Hawan will be held earlier at 2.30pm, followed by the Purtassi prayer at 3.30pm. An invitation is extended to all religious and cultural organisations, temple groups and the public to attend the Raam Bhajan prayer. Supper will be served between 5pm and 6.30pm, before the main Raan Bhajan Prayer and function at 6.30 pm.
This years’ Raam Bhajan prayer is being rendered by the highly acclaimed Sri Ramulu Temple Society and Andhra Vidhya Sabha from Puntans Hill in Durban. The prayer has its origins from the Raam Bhajana Festival which is a popular dance-cum-bhajan presentation in praise of “Lord Rama.
Navaratri
The Hibiscus Coast Navaratri Committee will be celebrating Navaratri 2019 at the Arya Samaj Hall until October 7. Shastriji Ramshusheel Chaturvedi of Mumbai will be officiating the prayer. Daily recitations of the full 13 chapters of the Durga Saptashati together with the Maha Yajna will commence at 6pm daily and 2:30pm on weekends.
Pacha and Kirtans will be performed by Vickesh Moonilal this Saturday, October 5. On Sunday, October 6, a Sampoornam Ramayan musical by Rabi Rampersad will start at 1pm, thereafter the Maha Yajna and Kanya Pooja will be performed.

On Monday, October 7, Saraswati pooja will be observed and students are encouraged to bring in their books for blessings, thereafter the Sahastra Archana (offering of 108 roses to Mother Durga) will be performed, where devotees will have an opportunity to offer a rose to Mata Di.
On Tuesday, October 8, the committee invites you to bid farewell to Mata Di, between 10.30am to 11.30am at the Block, Port Shepstone. The procession to the Block will leave the Port Shepstone Arya Samaj Hall at 10am followed by a Visarjan, where Mata Di will be immersed into the depths of the ocean promptly at 12pm.

Prayer
Shree Raam Narayan Mandir in Marburg is observing Navaratri up until October 7. Prayers will be held daily at 6pm, and Pundit Misra will officiate. The prayer will be concluded on October 8, with Vijay Dashmi from 10am to 12pm. Contact Singh Samsunder at 083 3008382 for further information.
Shree Hanuman
The Shree Hanuman Sanathan Dharma Sabha Mandir is also observing Navaratri. Hawan Devi Geet and bhajans will be held. All women wanting to take part in the Devi Geet puja can contact Veena Lakhan at 067 0688282. Prayers will be held up until October 4 at 6pm. The temple will observe Saraswati puja and Khanya puja on October 5 at 3pm. For further details, call Veena at 067 0688282.
Umbango temple
The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Alayam is observing Navarathri prayers up until October 7. Daily prayers will start at 6pm, all are welcome to take part.
Navagara Mahayam will be observed on Sunday, October 6 from 9am. Maha Saraswathi Prayers will be observed on Monday, October 7 with hawan starting at 5.30pm, followed by bhajans rendered by Vernon Govender along with Sa Re Ga Ma music academy and the Prema Jyothi Seva Sungam group.

Tying of the strings will be done by Guru, all children are welcome to bring their school and college books for prayer and supper will be served. The temple will be doing their Purtassi prayer on Saturday, October 12, with hawan at 2.30pm followed by a special service in praise of Lord Venkateswara.

Diwali messages
Temple organisations are invited to submit their Diwali or Deepavali messages by Thursday, October 10 for a Diwali feature to be published in the South Coast Herald on October 24. Diwali will be celebrated on Sunday, October 27.
