Illegal fishermen netted

SEVERAL men were recently caught fishing illegally in the Umkomaas river.

The police and concerned locals joined forces to ensure the nets were removed and that the perpetrators brought to book.

Illegal fishing, especially with nets, has become more and more common in the area over the years.

This causes a lot of environmental damage, as fish populations in a specific area deplete.

Ecosystems are destroyed and the decrease of fish affects the food supply.

People are urged to report illegal fishing or suspicious activities to their local police station.
