Margate Moves: Residents urged to attend AGM

Ramsgate business owners and residents are invited to submit items they would like to be discussed at the meeting.

ALL Ramsgate residents and ratepayers are urged to attend the Community Policing Forum’s annual general meeting.

It takes place at Lions’ Community Hall in Glenmarkie Road on Monday, October 21, at 6pm. The committee will present the audited financials as well as provide a crime report for the 12 month period ending June 2019.

Be moonstruck

The Ramsgate Conservancy’s Moondeckers will meet at the Whale Deck this Sunday (13th) to watch the full moon rise over the ocean. Everyone is invited to join them from 5pm – moonrise is at 5.46pm. Prego rolls will be on sale at R40 each – please RSVP for catering to Adrian Voice at 083 22867901 by the 11th.

There will also be a lucky draw so remember to take a little spare cash. All proceeds go to the conservancy.

Lots on the go

Margate Retirement Village has a few fun events coming up. The next DVD Classic Movie is `High Noon’ – regarded by many as the greatest Western film of all time – starring Gary Cooper. It will be screened at the Ronnie Baker Hall on Sunday, October 20 at 2.30pm. Tickets cost R5 per person which includes tea/coffee and biscuits during the intermission.

This month’s supper theatre offering at the Azalea Hall is an Evening with Jonothan Didlick. Pack a picnic supper, some liquid refreshments (and your own glasses) and get to the village on Saturday, October 26 for an evening of wonderful entertainment.

Tickets cost R80 per person and are on sale from either the RAC or admin offices at the village. Doors open at 6pm, giving patrons plenty of time to enjoy their supper before the curtain goes up at 7pm.

Another fun outing at the village will be the jukskei morning next Thursday (17th) from 9.30am.

The Shelly Beach Shafts (Self Help Association for the Seniors) will be there to play the game of throwing the `skei’. For details, contact Barrie Willis at 082 3819394.

And do diarise the village’s annual Morning Market and Craft Fair at Azalea Hall on Saturday, November 2 from 8.30am.

Sport scene

Southbroom Golf Club hosts its annual Mixed Classic this weekend, October 12 and 13. Take note – the clubhouse will be closed for spring cleaning from October 14 to 18.

Southbroom Tennis Club, which is looking good after its major revamp, will host an inter-club tournament on October 20 from 9am. Players will take on Umtentweni TC.

Next month, the club, together with Uvongo Tennis Club, will host Weltevreden Park TC from November 1 to 3.

Diary items

Jaci Mun-Gavin is guest speaker at a Women’s Seminar that takes place at Margate Baptist Church on Saturday, October 26. The seminar opens at 9am and concludes at midday.

The Nomusa CP Mqweba Education Development Trust fund-raising gala dinner will be held at the Margate Hotel on November 1 from 6pm. Contact 074 5136426 for details.

Country and Western legend, Clive Bruce, and other bands, will be at Pistols Saloon on October 26 from 5pm. This annual tribute to Country and Western music promises to be an evening of good old fashioned square dancing and cowboy capers.
