Deputy national commissioner pleads with all communities to take a stand against crime.
The South African Police Service and various faith denominations held a national prayer day to mark the end of police safety month recently.
The day was observed with services across all nine provinces to pray for the safety and security of all people in South Africa. The Ugu Cluster prayer day was held at Gate Ministries in Port Shepstone.

September was declared police safety month by Cabinet in 2011, where police safety measures are intensified, and the positive impact of active police and community partnerships are highlighted.
During the 2018/2019 financial year, Saps lost 27 officers including a police reservist in the line of duty. The officers were commemorated earlier this month during the national commemoration day proceedings held at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
The Deputy National Commissioner for Human Resources Management at Saps, Lieutenant General Bonang Mgwenya made a call to all in South Africa to work together with the Saps, to not only end the attacks on and killing of police officials, but for all in South Africa to unite and play an active role in their communities in assisting the police to root out criminal activity.
“These are crucial times and we must not play the blame game as to the status of crime in the country. This is a time to unite and mobilise all people in South Africa to support the work of all law enforcement officials.
We hereby plead with all communities to take a stand against crime and come forward with information that can assist the police to squeeze crime down to zero within communities.
“We take this opportunity to urge our people to stop turning a blind eye to criminal activities in their communities, whether be it drug peddling, gender-based violence ar any form of criminal activity. We urge you to take a stand and reclaim our streets back from the hands of criminals. We also take this opportunity to remember our fallen officials and other law enforcement officers who paid the ultimate price of serving and protecting the people of our country,” she said.
