Hindu deity immersed in sea off Port Shepstone
Everyone was privileged to be part of this divine, spiritual experience.
To mark the last day of Navaratri on Tuesday this week.
The Hibiscus Coast Navaratri Committee marked the occasion by immersing a beautifully decorated Durga Matha murthi (deity) into the sea.
Hindu devotees turned out in their numbers to witness this extraordinary event at The Block in Port Shepstone. The highlight of the occasion as always is the transporting of the murthi by helicopter out to sea.

Aarthi Ramouthar, one of the event organisers, said the murthi was handcrafted with clay so that it would dissolve back into its natural state.
“Our purpose is to inspire the worship of the divine mother and empower people to cultivate a closer relationship with God. Our mission is to teach people how to worship Durga Matha with the greatest sincerity,” she said.
Those who attended agreed that they were privileged to be part of this divine, spiritual experience.
