Talk of the Towns: Park Rynie needs some serious attention

And staying with Park Rynie matters, there is still much concern about the collapsing section of Rocklyn Drive.

I WAS quite baffled when I drove past a motorist last week who stopped and screamed at me for ignoring a stop street.

Firstly, I was a little stunned because I didn’t see any stop sign or road marking.

Secondly, I was furious because I thought to myself, “Who are you to correct me when I did absolutely nothing wrong?”

Before letting road rage get the better of me (like it usually does), I decided to ignore him and continued on my way.

When I returned home later, using the same route, I was shocked to see that I HAD in fact skipped the stop street… not on purpose, but because it was not visible – at all.

I did a little investigation and it appears that for the past couple of months, there has been no stop sign or road marking indicating that motorists are to stop on one side of Alkins Drive in Park Rynie. Perhaps the sign fell over and was removed?

I did feel a little stupid at first because the man who had stopped me was right and all I did was cuss him in my mind, but I wouldn’t have known this had I not returned to the scene of the ‘crime’ and checked the road out properly.

The white paint indicating that it was a stop street is almost completely gone, but if one looks very closely one can just make out the faded outlines.

As minor as this problem may seem, it can be dangerous because if a car doesn’t stop when it should, it could cause an accident.

And staying with Park Rynie matters, there is still much concern about the collapsing section of Rocklyn Drive.

It’s been more than five months since the problem was first reported, and the road is still in a sorry state, with the people living below the road still dealing with water flooding their yard on a regular basis.

Also, whenever it rains or there are strong winds, soil falls onto their property, making the road even more dangerous as its foundation weakens.

One can only hope that this is seen to before something major happens.

And finally, littering and illegal dumping will always be a problem, especially at our beaches.

It was so sad to see the state of Park Rynie beach after the weekend.

The beach parking lot near the tidal house had glass strewn all over the place, bottles were dumped in the bush at the parking lot, and there was much broken glass on the groudn too which could damage car tyres or even cause a nasty cut to someone’s foot.
