The children each received a complete uniform package consisting of shoes, socks, trousers, shirts, jerseys and ties.

“From 1994, the government prioritised education as it is a basic and fundamental need for any South African,” said MEC Pillay.

Both school principals expressed their gratitude for the generous gesture, saying the donation would go a long way towards helping pupils who came from struggling families.

“We hope that these uniforms will not only foster a sense of pride among pupils, but that it will also boost their confidence, something that will have a good bearing on their performance in school,” said MEC Pillay.

“Handing out the uniforms before the end of the academic year will also ensure that the pupils will be ready for day one of school next year.”

Chairman of Dududu Primary’s governing body, Slindile Gwala, thanked the Treasury and MEC Pillay for the uniforms.

“This will definitely have a huge impact, and will encourage the pupils to do well in class.

“For us as parents it means that when the next academic year begins, we will now have less to worry about.”

Similar sentiments were shared by the principal of Phindavele High, Nkosinathi Cele.
