OPINION: Durban visitor appalled at deterioration of Uvongo roads

I have not visited Uvongo for about two years. I have recently spent a week there on a short holiday and was looking for a possible investment in property. I have been appalled at the deterioration of some of the roads in Uvongo. There are numerous potholes, some measuring 10cm deep, which is extremely dangerous.

I have not visited Uvongo for about two years. I have recently spent a week there on a short holiday and was looking for a possible investment in property.

I have been appalled at the deterioration of some of the roads in Uvongo. There are numerous potholes, some measuring 10cm deep, which is extremely dangerous.

Other road surfaces are breaking up, while road markings are absent.

Where the councillors responsible for road maintenance? Is there not case for a charge of dereliction of duty in this instant? Surely, heads should roll with an apparent do not care attitude.

I now have second thoughts about investing. If things can deteriorate to this extent in two years, what will the situation be like in the future if no remedial action is taken soon?

Another thought, what about some benches above the tidal pool, so that both residents and tourists can sit and enjoy the sea view?

The economic value that tourists bring to a town should never be underestimated.
