Stop dumping your trash

The recycling bins in Umtentweni have been moved to the New Bolton garden refuse site, and residents are urged not to dump their rubbish or recycling bags in Commercial Road.

Derrick Morris, chairman of the Umtentweni Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association said they were not happy that the bins had been moved.

“The general sentiment seems to be that the new placement is dangerous, and not safe for women. It is also too far out of town,” he said.

Mr Morris reminded would-be dumpers that cameras were in place in Commercial Road, and those caught dumping illegally could be fined.

Tweni resident Mark Lawlor said that while some were trying hard to keep Tweni looking good, others simply didn’t care.

“Please take pride in your area. Many of us have invested in this piece of paradise and we want visitors to keep coming back.”

The Herald accompanied Mr Morris to the New Bolton recycling depot, and found it to be in a terrible state.

The old and broken recycling bins (some without doors, others that cannot lock) and some rusted garden bins with no bottoms had been set up at the yard, and there was rubbish everywhere.

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality spokesman, Simon April was approached for comment but had nott responded at the time of going to print.
