Schoolchildren injured in N2 crash

Three patients were seriously injured, while the remaining 20 suffered minor injuries.

Twenty-three children travelling to school in a taxi were injured when the driver lost control of the vehicle on the N2 at Bhobhoyi this morning at about 7.30am.

According Craig Botha from Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service,  emergency services  found that the taxi had flipped onto its side.

“Paramedics found that 23 people had been injured. Three patients were seriously injured, while the remaining 20 suffered minor injuries. All were treated at the scene and transported to hospital,” said Mr Botha.

The cause of the accident is not known, and police are investigating.

In a separate accident today,  a truck and trailer, bakkie and taxi collided on the N2 near Izingolweni.

“One person from the truck was killed, while six other people were injured. Two patients sustained critical injuries – one was airlifted to Durban and the other was transported to a local hospital,” said Mr Botha.
