Locals four balled at Thunee classic

The next Thunee tournament is scheduled for June next year.

Out-of-towners claimed the top three positions at the final Thunee competition played at the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort last Saturday.

The competition was a nail-biter and proved that the event is going from strength to strength.

The turn out for the Thunee competition was much lower than usual due to all the sporting action on TV.

Many of our local players were taken out during the first round leaving only Ashen Sewpersad and Sanjay Pramduth of Hibberdene in the quarter-finals who then lost to the Umkomaas team.

Kevin Moodley and Anthony Perumal of Richards Bay, first-time entrants of the competition, walked away the winners and took the top prize of R15 000.

It was also the first time that a couple made it through to the finals. Raymond Annamuthu and Anusha Jugoo from Durban played intelligently and came second winning R10 000. This was also the couple’s first time playing at the Wild Coast Sun Hotel and Casino Resort.

Third place went to Kirshan Gounden and Zubair Hoosain from Umkomaas who came away R5 000 richer.

Wild Coast Sun organiser of the competition, Anandh Perumal, said the final tournament for the year was a great success.

Mr Perumal thanked all sponsors and players for making the event a success. “The competition has grown and become very popular. It was also pleasant to witness women taking part,” said Mr Perumal.
