On the mend
On October 20, Lesley Botha of Umtentweni was involved in a terrible car accident near a petrol station in Oslo Beach. Due to her injuries, including broken vertebrae and a broken leg, she had to be airlifted to a Durban hospital.
Her daughter Luzaan flew out from London and has since returned. Every day brings a bit of improvement although she will be in ICU for a long time. All her friends and colleagues wish her a complete recovery.
Lyn Curnow is recovering very well after her recent back operation, but as they say, you can’t keep a good woman down. She is finding it difficult not to get up and go. Do not do too much too soon.
A simple note
With crime on the uptake, please be careful when giving something away. Not all staff have vehicles to transport possessions and can become suspects. A simple note with an explanation and contact details for confirmation will save everyone time.
Fascinating travels
Marcel and Glenda Schutgens are visiting their son Maurice in Kenya and are presently exploring the beautiful Lamu Island. Maurice is part of the amazing team at ‘Space for Giants’, a group involved in saving Elephants.
Don Solomon, on contract as diver medic, sailed out of Cape Town on the Artic Sunrise, operated by Greenpeace on October 22 and will re-dock on November 11. Most of the crew, scientists, divers and celebrities on board are vegan.

The mission is to check up on Mount Vema, an atoll 1 000km northwest of Cape Town in the South Atlantic. They are monitoring the Tristan lobster for which fishing was banned due to over-fishing in 2007, and clearing the atoll of abandoned nets. No doubt Don will have some interesting stories upon his return.
Please be careful when visiting beachfront areas especially at sunset and sunrise. Don’t go alone and if you feel uncomfortable or suspicious, rather leave.
Birthday wishes this week go to Gill van Heerden (7th), Michelle Lillie and Anita Hulley (8th) and Carrie Pieterse on November 11.
All news to Leila.
