Bad weather leads to some schools, Ugu offices closing early

Parents are advised to contact their children's schools to find out if they are remaining open.

The provincial department of education has instructed all  schools in the province to let pupils who are not writing exams  be released immediately to go home due to predicted bad weather conditions.

A memorandum with instructions to the school headmasters was sent out this morning.

Spokesman for the department Muzi Mahlambi said  pupils who are writing exams should continue with their planned sessions and bereleased immediately after finishing.

“Where possible, parents must  be informed to collect their children to ensure safe return home.”

Ugu District Municipality staff have reportedly also been informed that as a precaution, its offices will close at 1pm today (Friday).
