Two sentenced for Murchison murder and robbery

A man died after being assaulted at his store last year.

Two men who robbed and murdered a 36-year-old man at his store in Mbambayi area in Murchison in 2018 were recently sentenced in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court.

Sizwe Siyanda Cele (27) was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for murder and a further 15 years for aggravated robbery.

Namhla Inami Shazi (23) was handed a 20-year sentence for murder (of which five are suspended) and 15 years for aggravated robbery.

The sentences will run concurrently.

The men entered the store and assaulted the shop owner with a hammer before fleeing with cash and cellphones.

The shop owner died in hospital the following day.

Police arrested the suspects in Murchison five days later.

Ugu Cluster Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele commended the investigating officer, Captain Lami Mjweni for his hard work.
