Greener communities promoted at Craigieburn and Umkomaas schools

Trees were planted under the Presidential Billion Trees initiative.

Deputy Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, Narend Singh, recently visited schools across Craigieburn and Umkomaas to promote greener communities and food security.

This was done as part of the District Development Model Tree-Planting Ministerial Programme under the Presidential Billion Trees initiative.

The schools visited were Naidooville Primary, Umkomaas Primary, Naidoo Memorial Primary, Umkomaas Drift Primary and Umkomaas Secondary.

Singh addressed the schools, handed over gardening implements and joined learners, principals and school governing body representatives in planting trees.

The programme concluded at Craigieburn Clinic and the adjacent library, where a food garden was launched, and community members joined in further tree planting.

These visits brought practical greening and food-security support to schools and public facilities while encouraging environmental stewardship.
