Movie magic

‘Fiddler on the Roof’ is the next DVD Classic Movie to be shown at Margate Retirement Village. It will be screened at Ronnie Baker Hall this Sunday, November 17 at 2pm. Almost everyone over the age of 50 years will remember the hit number from this great musical ‘If I Was a Rich Man’ performed by Topol. Entrance is R5 per person which includes tea/coffee and biscuits during intermission.

Water woes

It was a case of ‘water, water everywhere, but not a drop to drink’ again for many Ramsgate residents. After enduring more than two weeks of dry taps, a low pressure service was restored last Sunday, but by Thursday last week it was back to being non-existent. And there are still areas without water. At least with all the rain people can literally take a shower in the showers.

Take note, there are static water tanks at the area known as China, Pistol’s Saloon, Lions’ Community Hall and at the Hibiscus Mall. Residents who have water are urged to use it sparingly in order for reservoirs to fill up. Adding to the frustrations – large parts of Margate and the Extension Three residential area have been without electricity too.

Traffic chaos

Weather forecasts predict heavy rain for the South Coast up until Tuesday next week. In April this year severe flooding caused major damage after a month’s rain was dumped in 24 hours. Roads were washed away and badly damaged.

More than six months later, the northern entrance to Margate at Crossroads has not been repaired. In fact the sink-hole appears to grow a little wider each week.

It is a nightmare trying to get into the town and neither the traffic nor the roads department has bothered to even adjust the timing of the traffic lights, which leads to snarl-ups every day and chaos over the weekends. The December holiday season is upon us. What an unsightly and aggravating welcome awaits our visitors. Why is nothing being done?

Go classical

The next Classics at Riverbend concert will feature the flute, clarinet and bassoon. It takes place at Riverbend Crocodile Farm Art and Wine Centre this Sunday (17th) at 2.30pm. Tickets cost R120 per person and there will be a cash bar. Tea and coffee will also be on offer.

Go funky

However, if you prefer your music a little more funky then head off to Rocky Ridge in Ramsgate. The iconic music venue is holding a ‘Let’s Funk’ evening this Saturday (16th) from 5pm. Hosted by the Psy Ballies, it features funky, house, techno and bouncy music.

Play for funds

The Imbezane Mission Church (Presbyterian congregation) will hold its annual golf day fundraiser at Southbroom Golf Club on November 29. It is a great tournament and there are some super prizes to be won. Proceeds go towards church funds. For more information phone Gordon Moodie at 082 4484388 or Pam Avern-Taplin at 039 3168707 or 082 8901405.

Date to diarise

Southbroom Tennis Club will once again host a traditional Christmas Market. It takes place at Eyles Park (next to the courts) on Sunday, December 15 from 4.30pm.
