Gunmen shoot dead Margate taxi boss
The shooting is believed to be related to the ongoing feud over the lucrative Durban route
Regional chairman of the South African National Taxi Council (Santaco) and Margate taxi boss Mandla Mzelemu has been shot dead.
Mr Mzelemu (58) who was also the spokesman for the organisation, was gunned down on his way home last night (Thursday).
It is believed he had been returning from a meeting with other taxi bosses in KwaNzimakwe when the occupants of a white sedan opened fire on his vehicle before fleeing.
Community members and pedestrians ran for cover as shots rang out across the street.

The shooting is believed to be related to the ongoing feud over the lucrative Durban route.
It is the fifth shooting to occur in the space of two months, and the third from Margate’s Bambanani Taxi Association in less than a month.
Police spokesman Captain Nqobile Gwala confirmed the incident.
“The victim was seated in his vehicle at Izingolweni Road in Port Edward at about 6pm when he was fatally shot by unknown suspects.”
A case of murder was opened at Port Edward police station.
