Margate Moves: Many exciting events to choose from

Schools close soon and the South Coast looks forward to welcoming visitors, but sadly, the beach walkway along Panorama Parade in Margate has yet to be repaired.

Dry taps

For many Ramsgate and south residents, it’s been more than a month without an uninterrupted water supply. Some have gone for 28 days out of 34 without water.

Although the seriousness of dry taps and empty static tanks seems to go unnoticed by Ugu District Municipality, the residents’ plight was aired on television last Sunday. DStv’s channel 347 screened ‘I Beg To Differ’ at 8pm with host Yusuf Ishmael in conversation with the DA’s Dr Rishigen Viranna about the dire state of water ‘mismanagement’ in the region.

Sadly, Ugu management, the mayor and ANC councillors declined the invitation to be interviewed and probably did not watch the show either.

Get quizzical

Everyone is invited to Ramsgate Lions Club’s final ‘Braai and Brain Evening’ of 2019 at the Community Centre in Glenmarkie Drive this Friday (29th). Fires will be ready from 6pm, and salads are provided at R30pp. Take your own meat and drinks.

And as it’s the last get-together of 2019, quiz teams are invited to brighten tables with some Christmas cheer. The quiz starts after dinner – four people to a team at a cost of R10pp. For more information contact Lion Jenny Henry at 083 3098314.

Talented actor and story-teller, Barbie Meyer, will perform her acclaimed show ‘Marico Moon’ at Riverbend Crocodile Farm this Saturday (30th) at 6.30pm. Tickets cost R120pp. For details, phone 067 0876163.

Choral concert

Traditional Christmas songs and carols are on the programme at Hibiscus Choir’s annual concert at Ramsgate Lions’ Club’s Community Centre next Saturday, December 7, from 6.30pm. Pack a picnic and take liquid refreshments for this supper theatre offering. Tickets at R30pp will be on sale at the door or phone Lion Jenny Henry at 083 3098314.

Art in action

The Southbroom Five will stage their first exhibition at the new gallery in Illala Boulevard in Southbroom next Friday (6th). Anton Benzon, Diane Erasmus, Florian Junge, Rob Wareing and Keith Erasmus will show their incredible artwork. For more information, call 082 4959810.

Save the dates

Doxa Church in Margate will host a Christmas car boot event this Saturday (30th) from 9am. Cost is R50 for traders. For more info, phone Lorraine at 078 1755839.

A two-day ‘Migrate Music Festival’ will be held at Rocky Ridge in Ramsgate on December 7 and 8.

For the energetic, there’s a yoga fun day at Ramsgate Whale Deck next Saturday (7th) from 8am to 1pm.

There will also be a Christmas market and part of the proceeds go to Ramsgate Conservancy.

Margate Bowling Club holds its annual ‘Toys for Joy’ Christmas lunch next Sunday (8th). For details, phone 039 3120351. The mayor’s Youth Academy Golf Day takes place at Margate Country Club next Friday (6th). It’s a four-ball alliance with an 11am shotgun start. Phone 039 3172340 to book.
