Warning against unlawful discharge of firearms in public

If anyone is found guilty, they are liable to a fine or a custodial sentence.

Police are sending a strong message to the public against the unlawful practice of discharging firearms during social gatherings.

This includes funerals and other social events.

The unlawful discharge of a firearm poses a danger to members of the public. Anyone who engages in this practice is contravening the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000, and if found guilty, is liable to a fine or a custodial sentence.

A 22-year-old man was recently arrested after he discharged his licensed firearm at a funeral in KZN this month. He appeared in court and was released on R1000 bail.

Firearms must be handled responsibly and in accordance with the law to prevent injuries, loss of life and unnecessary danger to the community.
