Damian named Rotary Paul Harris Fellow

Family and friends of Port Shepstone Rotarians recently gathered at the Vintage Street Cafe in Oslo Beach to honour Damien Williams with Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellowship Award.
At the luncheon, Rowan D’Arcy, the president of the Rotary Club of Port Shepstone said this prestigious award signified an amount of $1000.00 had been donated to the Rotary Foundation in the name of the awardee.

Mr D’Arcy presented Mr Williams with the Paul Harris Fellowship Award for his 20 years of service to the club’s flagship event, the Youth Leadership Course.
Mr Williams commitment to bringing about change in the community and his contribution to education and the youth leadership course, convened by Rotary Port Shepstone for the past 56 years were specifically noted.
“We have no doubt that he carried our club and ensured that we continued with this journey for the youth of Kwazulu-Natal,” said Mr D’Arcy.

Mr Williams said he was honoured to receive the award and thanked the members of the Rotary club for giving off their time to mould and shape the youth.
Rotary International (RI) established the recognition in 1957 to encourage and show appreciation for substantial contributions to what was then the foundation’s only programme, Rotary foundation fellowships for advanced study, the precursor to ambassadorial scholarships.
The first Paul Harris Fellows included past RI director Allison Brush, who served during the 1937-38 Rotary year, and longtime RI treasurer Rufus Chapin, both for donations made in 1946.

Rotarians have a tradition of supporting the Foundation by honouring others.
