Tweni Talk: Reduce your carbon footprint with this plant
Spekboom is drought-resistant, so having it in your garden is a bonus and will always keep it looking green.
Liz Foster recommends that everybody starts saving our planet – one plant at a time. If done on a regular basis, imagine what we can accomplish. Plant the wonder plant spekboom today – it is a hardy plant, indigenous to the Eastern Cape, with the potential to soak up carbon emissions on a large scale.

The good news is that it is edible so pop some leaves into your next salad. Spekboom has many other worthy attributes like being drought-resistant, so having them in your garden is a bonus and will always keep it looking green.

Derick Morris invites residents and ratepayers to the meeting on December 4th for a presentation by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality on their action plan for Tweni. This involves all issues and complaints by residents and will be held at Umtwentweni Library at 5.15pm. Stand together – we are all affected by lack of service delivery.
Keep dogs contained
Another request to please keep dogs contained in yards. If they do get out, go after them and catch them yourselves and don’t just assume that they will come home when they are ready. Michelle Harris rescued a dog in Stapleton Road last Sunday and finally found the owner an hour later in Kiepersol Lane who said ‘her dog always bolts as soon as the gate is opened’.
It sounds as if she needs to make her yard safe and put up double gates to keep her dog in. It is no longer safe for responsible dog owners to take their dogs for walks on leashes around some roads in Tweni as roaming dogs harass them. Roaming dogs also tend to tear open refuse bags on collection day.
Joggers and runners are also at the mercy of unattended dogs.
Phone the SPCA and request for them to come and collect any stray dogs when you see them. It is better to have them safe at the SPCA than being run over accidentally.
Good wishes
Gloria Bester has been very ill recently, which is completely out of character for her, causing family and friends much concern. We all wish her a speedy recovery. Lesley Botha underwent a back operation last week and has recovered well. The next step of her recovery is to heal her broken leg with exercises like getting up and walking to the couch.
Birthdays this week are Leah Curnow (turned 7 on November 24), Beulah Girdwood (27th), Dianne Saunders, Narusha Perumal and Sandy Danckwertz (29th), Jenna Bezuidenhout (30th) and Kathy Marsden on December 2.
All news to Leila.
