Women sew their way to success
About 30 unemployed women, who attended sewing lessons and gained sewing skills with the church’s outreach programme under the guidance of volunteers, completed their final year of tutelage.
Proud women from Gcilima and KwaNzimakwe communities were presented with sewing certificates by the Parish of Margate Centre of Concern Sewing School at a prize-giving ceremony recently.

About 30 unemployed women, who attended sewing lessons and gained sewing skills with the church’s outreach programme under the guidance of volunteers, completed their final year of tutelage.
The excited women said they looked forward to starting their own businesses.
Zandile Lumantshi said during the graduation she decided to wear an outfit made by herself.
“I’m happy with my acquired skills, I can now make different types of clothing items and this will open new doors for me,” she said.
Organisers said the church’s outreach programme gives women from disadvantaged backgrounds a chance to support their families and to be independent by starting their own businesses.
