Alamein Road is now safe, says Eskom
After the move, the contractor went back and cleaned the site and removed all the boxes that were no longer in use.
Eskom has confirmed that Alamein Road in Uvongo has been cleared of all illegal connections and is now safe.
The Herald recently reported that Eskom boxes had been turned over, vandalized and left open, and residents were worried that a child would stick their fingers into the box and receive a fatal shock.

Joyce Zingoni, an Eskom spokesman, said they had a project in that area, where they removed illegal connections and relocated a mini-sub and distribution boxes, that had been vandalised, to more secure areas closer to customers’ houses.
“After the move, the contractor went back and cleaned the site and removed all the boxes that were no longer in use, which are the boxes referred to in your query. Unfortunately, the community from a nearby informal settlement tried to connect into the system illegally by using these boxes,” she said.
