AfriForum Margate head of community safety, Wessel Pretorius, recently submitted a document containing allegations of corruption at Ugu District Municipality to the Saps in Margate for investigation.
The document is believed to have been received from a whistle-blower who is a current Ugu employee, and contains serious allegations of the misappropriation of public funds and alleges corrupt arrangements between management and external contractors.

“We trust the Saps will investigate whether the information contained is this document is true and if so, take the matter further,” said Mr Pretorius.
Ugu has however struck back, saying this was nothing but “a stunt”.
Spokesman France Zama said the municipality had been consistent in its pronouncements over claims of corruption levelled against some its officials, adding that anyone with evidence in this regard should submit this to law enforcement agencies for investigation.
“Therefore we are not perturbed by the fanfare created by AfriForum on various media platforms in this regard and in fact we encourage everyone to play a meaningful role in rooting out any corruption.”
Mr Zama added that council had recently sanctioned an investigation into the allegations of corruption, and these investigations, conducted by the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, were ongoing.
“The leadership of the municipality will continue to forge ahead with its efforts to ensure that the municipality delivers on its mandate of delivering water and sanitation services to residents.
“We will not be deterred by any right-wing extremist on our quest of instilling good governance and acting decisively on any proven acts of corruption and maladministration.”
