Umtamvuna Views: Get into the festive mood with sax on the beach
Fabulous saxophone player, Gerry Kunene, will entertain with his delightful music.
Don’t miss the free music soiree at Trafalgar beach this Saturday, December 21 at 5pm. Fabulous saxophone player, Gerry Kunene, will entertain with his delightful music. Bring chairs and a picnic basket. This event is being sponsored by the Trafalgar community as a fundraiser for the SPCA and locals in need.

Please bring along some animal food, blankets or dry/tinned foodstuff. The location is on the grassy bank near the lifesaving hut.
Christmas services
The Methodist Church will be holding a Christmas Eve service on December 24 at 5pm and two services on Christmas Day, December 25 at 7 am and 8.30am.
Mourned
Port Edward fishing icon Dirk Liebenberg (68) has sadly died. Dirk and his family settled in Port Edward in 1981, when he took up a post as a policeman.
Upon his retirement Dirk, a passionate fisherman ran a successful fishing boat charter. He had been unwell since August and passed away on December 9 due to diabetic complications.
He leaves his wife Petru, three children, two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will be sorely missed by the community.
Law enforcement
Holidaymakers and day visitors have arrived. Locals are happy to welcome visitors but do not take kindly to litter, drunken behaviour and loud music. Our local law enforcement agents are doing a sterling job at the beach checking for alcohol and firearms. It was reported that the public holiday of December 16 was a peaceful and lovely day for beachgoers.
Holiday permits
Don’t forget a holiday permit is required for free vehicle beach access. Locals/ratepayers can collect their permit at the Tourism offices at Mattison Square. Free refuse bags can be collected, on presentation of a rates account, from the Port Edward Library, on a Monday or Leisure Bay civic offices on a Friday.
Line dancers
The Munster line dancers thoroughly enjoyed their Christmas party last Thursday. The women meet every week at the Munster Sports Club for exercise and socialising. A nice touch by Estelle Danielsen was the delicious, homemade miniature coffee liqueur bottle presented to each dancer.
Christmas spirit
The Americans are famous for lighting up their homes over Christmas. This trend has not taken off here, but one family does go all out to glitz up their house. Locals look forward to taking their children to see the lights at the home on 8th Street near Granny’s Pool in Port Edward.
Beach walk
There will be a fun social walk starting at Trafalgar beach this Sunday, December 22. Entry is R20 and breakfast wraps will be on sale.
