Man (22) arrested for firing gun at Ezinqoleni funeral
Police have warned the public against discharging firearms at funerals and social gatherings, saying the unlawful practice puts lives at risk.
A 22-year-old man was arrested after discharging his licensed firearm at a funeral in Ezinqoleni on Saturday, October 3.
He appeared in court and was released on R1 000 bail. The matter was postponed to December 11.
Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Paul Magwaza said Saps had issued a strong warning to the public against discharging firearms at social gatherings, including funerals and other events.
“The unlawful discharge of a firearm poses a serious danger to members of the public. Anybody who engages in this practice is contravening the Firearms Control Act 60 of 2000 and, if found guilty, is liable to pay a fine or face a custodial sentence,” he said.
Firearms must be handled responsibly and in accordance with the law to prevent injuries, loss of life and unnecessary danger to the community.
